The Continental Railway is a railroad network in the Greycliff world. It consists of various lines which serve many areas across the region.

History

The original project, created in 2013, was called the Greycliff Railway. The first station built was Village Station, in the north-western region of the world. It was soon connected to the next station down the line, Silver Mall, and a short section was built east of that station as well. Some months later, a project was started in 2014 named the Continental Railroad, which was planned to head southwest from a city named Block Nation ("Togcity" at the time). This line eventually became the Northern Line, and it eventually stretched from N. E. Terminal at the former north-east corner of Greycliff, all the way west to Village Station. The last part of this original line to be completed, was the short link between Postal Facility and Silver Mall stations.

During very early construction of the line, it was realized that it would be impractical for it to serve both the towns of Arcadia and Mooshcity. The Northern Line was built to pass through an Arcadia, while a "shuttle" line, named the Mooshcity Shuttle, was built to connect Mooshcity with Northern Fort station on the Northern Line. After Arcadia, the next major city westbound on the line was The Neighborhood. Along the way to it, stations were made at Mining Co, Greenhill, Basingse, and two strongholds named simply Stronghold and West Stronghold. Finally, the line made it to Wizard City within The Neighborhood, and ended there for a bit. Once extended, the line was made to stop at Riverhead and [[Easterville] before leaving The Neighborhood. After making one more stop at Postal Facility, the line was finally connected to the old Greycliff Railway that, for over a year, had only made it from Village Station to Silver Mall.

On the eastern end, the line did not stay at Grand Central (its main stop in Block Nation) for long. In early 2014, it was extended to West Hannaford, which was until that moment a lonely Block Nation Subway station near the eastern end of Hannaford Avenue in Block Nation. (The station is a misnomer, as it is actually further east than Hannaford, South Hannaford, and North Hannaford stations.) The next major extension of the line was to the Fort Greycliff station; along the way, the station stopped at Treefort Station, Golden Empire Greycliff, and Greece Square. After that, the line was extended to Party Island, with a stop at Scenic View. Once the line was at Party Island, a gradual process started of extending the railroad towards the final N.E. Terminal, which was located (at the time) in the north-eastern corner of Greycliff. Various stops were created along the way, such as Hilltop Station and Nex City. The line ended at Altitude for a very long time, despite the station being only a few hundred blocks away from the future north-eastern terminal. The line ended at Altitude for so long, that an entire new line was completed before it was extended further.

Once the Northern Line was at Altitude, it was clear that simply having named lines such as the Northern Line and Mooshcity Shuttle was not going to work out. So, the new planned line, named the Montmorency Shuttle, was given a number designation -- Line 14B. The Northern Line became Line 14, and the Mooshcity Shuttle became Line 14A (although very few signs along Lines 14 and 14A actually indicate them as such. Modern signs on Line 14A simply call it the "Mooshcity-Rome Shuttle".) The new shuttle, however, was plentifully signed with its number. It first stretched from Village Station in the north-west region of Greycliff, to an old town named North Ashbridge further north. The last major settlement in the area was Northern Fortress, to which the line was shortly extended. Between the fortress and Montmorency, however, there was nearly nothing but nature, even though thousands of blocks separated the stations. As a result, other than the Etsterosk, North Stronghold, and Wolf's Gorge stations, the only stations on the line are ones that were created to point out various scenic features of the world. It wasn't long before Montmorency was reached, and the Montmorency Shuttle was complete.

On the Eastern side of Greycliff, in late 2014 a station was built and named Rust. Planned for the Eastern Line (later named Line 13), the station remained in its lonely community for a year before any sort of connection was made to it. The next major settlement to the north had a station named Gare du Nord, and along the way there were stops at Mount Olympus and the East KLQ Zone. At this point, another shuttle was created, this time to serve the Tree of Life, a structure located south-west of the East KLQ Zone. Informally named the Tree of Life Shuttle, Line 13C soon began running from Gare du Nord to the Tree of Life. From the tree, it was soon extended southwest to Boscombe Valley and eventually West Town. In the north, both Lines 13 and 13C were extended along a grand bridge to Frostbridge, and then Line 13C veered east to serve Frostburg and Mooseville while Line 13C headed north to Frost Plateau.

For a while, there had been a plan to create a line running down the center of Greycliff. This was finally started in late 2015, when a platform was built at Grand Central for Line 7 (informally known as the Nuclear Line). This resulted in it being necessary to distinguish between the Northern and Nuclear Lines at Grand Central, and as a result there is a grand total of one sign at Grand Central, that directs passengers to Line 7 (the Nuclear Line) and Line 14 (the Northern Line). Line 7 passes south by Memorial Line on the Block Nation Subway (without stopping there), and makes a few stops at Ono Village (one of them being Ono Village South, before ending at Aberkanth Island.
